PRESS RELEASE:
Fort Dodge Fire Department responded to a fire at Westridge Townhomes at 2:22 a.m. last night.
When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from a two-story apartment building. Firefighters quickly began putting out the fire, searching the building, and ventilating the structure. The fire started in a middle apartment and spread into the attic.
Crews used a deck gun and multiple hose lines to bring the fire under control. After the main fire was knocked down, firefighters remained on scene for several hours to make sure the fire was fully out and to check for hidden hot spots.
A third alarm callback brought in 14 off-duty firefighters to assist at the scene and help cover the station. In total, 24 Fort Dodge Fire Department personnel were involved in the response for about six hours.
Two occupants were transported to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Fort Dodge Fire was assisted by the Fort Dodge Police Department and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
